Body sushi is a real thing. There are certain places that you can go to and have your sushi served on a live model. From what I hear though this is not a traditional Japanese practice; it was probably started to appeal to western tourists.

This piece was one of a group of 9 to be made into bookmarks. The original measured 4"x12", and was marker & colored pencil on bristol paper. Original art has been sold, but bookmarks are still available for $5 plus shipping.

Nyotaimori, as far as my research has gone, and I could be wrong, was actually an art form in Japan. However, they used a special body mat, and paint the model up like a geisha in Japan, whereas in Las Vegas and New York, they just have a hot chick in a thong.

I was only reading small articles that accompanied pictures when I was looking for reference images. They all seemed to imply that it was started to appeal to westerners, but who knows how accurate that was.

True true. I got the same impression from what I read... but it seemed to focus a lot on the way America bastardized it in our country.. while it's still pretty stable over there o.o ... You should do that for your significant >:3
